I offer personalised, one-to-one music lessons for students of all ages and abilities in Chippenham and throughout Wiltshire — from complete beginners picking up an instrument for the first time, through to advanced players looking to develop their skills further.

Lessons are relaxed, encouraging and built entirely around you — your goals, your musical taste and your pace. There’s no rigid syllabus, no pressure, and no one-size-fits-all approach.

Lessons Designed Around You

Every lesson is individually planned to match your experience, interests and learning style. Whether you want to work towards grades and exams, develop as a creative musician, learn songs you love, or simply enjoy playing for its own sake, lessons are shaped around what matters to you.

I’ve been a full-time musician since 2015, performing across the UK and internationally alongside a career in teaching. That broader experience — of performing live, working in bands, playing a huge range of venues and styles — informs the way I teach, and means lessons are grounded in the realities of what it actually means to be a musician, not just a technically proficient player.

I began formal teaching in 2020 and have since worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, from young beginners to adult learners, from complete novices to students preparing for advanced examinations.

Instruments

I offer lessons across a range of stringed instruments:

Acoustic guitar — strumming, fingerstyle, songwriting and accompaniment
Electric guitar — riffs, solos, tone and performance skills
Bass guitar — groove, timing and playing with others
Ukulele — chords, strumming, fingerpicking and singing alongside
Mandolin — picking technique, melody and playing across a range of styles

You can focus on one instrument or explore several over time. Many students find that learning a second instrument alongside their primary one deepens their musicianship considerably.

Lessons can cover a wide range of musical styles — there’s no expectation that you’ll stick to one genre, and exploring different styles is often one of the most enjoyable parts of learning:

Exams, Duke of Edinburgh and Wider Musical Studies

I support students working towards formal music grades through ABRSM, Rockschool and Trinity, as well as those using music as their Duke of Edinburgh Award skill. Lessons can also incorporate wider musical studies including music theory, harmony, ear training, music history and the music of different cultures — making music a genuinely rich subject rather than simply a practical skill.

For students who prefer a more relaxed, non-examination approach, that’s equally welcome. The goal is always meaningful musical growth, however that looks for each individual.

I teach students of all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re a young beginner, a teenager with ambitions to perform, an adult picking up the guitar for the first time, or someone returning to an instrument after years away, lessons are adapted to suit you.

Supporting Neurodivergent Students

I have experience teaching students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety and a range of other learning differences, and approach every student with patience, adaptability and a genuine interest in finding what works best for them as an individual.

Lessons are always one-to-one, which means the pace, structure and communication style can be fully adapted to each student’s needs. There’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else, and no expectation that every lesson will look the same.

Lessons are relaxed and encouraging. Mistakes are part of learning, curiosity is always welcome, and the aim is for every student to leave a lesson feeling confident, inspired and motivated to pick up their instrument again.

Lessons are flexible — I can travel to you at home, or if you’d prefer, you’re welcome to come to me at my home in Chippenham.

For students who prefer the convenience of learning in their own environment, I offer mobile tuition throughout Chippenham and the surrounding Wiltshire area, including Calne, Corsham, Devizes, Melksham, Malmesbury, Bradford on Avon, Bath, Lyneham, Tetbury and across the Cotswolds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do lessons take place?

Lessons can take place at your home, at my home studio in Chippenham, or online. I travel to students throughout North Wiltshire and the surrounding area — get in touch to check whether I cover your location.

How long are lessons?

Lessons are typically 30 or 60 minutes. For younger beginners, 30 minutes is usually the right starting point. Older students and adults often find 60 minutes more productive once they’ve built up their concentration and stamina.

Do I need my own instrument?

Yes — having your own instrument to practise on between lessons is essential for making progress. I’m happy to advise on a suitable beginner instrument before your first lesson so you can get started with something appropriate for your budget and goals.

Do I need to be able to read music?

No. Many students learn using tab, chord charts and by ear without ever reading standard notation. I can introduce music reading if you’d like to develop that skill, but it’s not a requirement.

Do you teach complete beginners?

Absolutely. Many of my students start with no previous experience at all, and lessons are designed to feel welcoming, clear and immediately musical from the very first session.

How quickly will I progress?

Progress varies between students depending on age, experience, how much time they practise between lessons, and their goals. What I can say is that consistent, regular practice between lessons makes a far bigger difference than lesson length or frequency alone. I’ll always give you clear, manageable things to work on between sessions.
